President Alvaro Uribe met with United Nations Special Rapporteur on
Extrajudicial Executions, Philp Alston, Tuesday to talk about
Colombia’s ‘false positives’ scandal that implicates more than a 1,000
members of the armed forces in the murder of some 1,700 civilians.
The Rapporteur is currently in Colombia for an official UN investigation into the scandal and met with Uribe for more than two hours and a half to hear the President’s side of the story.
According to local media, Uribe explained to the Rapporteur what administrative measures are taken to prevent the military from going awry and what the administration is doing to send those guilty of extrajudicial killings to jail.
Alston prefered not to make statements to the press about the meeting. He will hold a press conference Thursday where he will present the conclusions of his investigation.
