Colombia’s Prosecutor General, Mario Iguaran, Friday said there was no
reason to extradite former paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso,
adding weight to Mancuso’s accusation that he was extradited by the
government to stop him incriminatingcoalition politicans.
“The Prosecutor General’s Office has not found elements that support the extradition of the demobilized of the AUC,” Iguaran told journalists.
He responded to the remarks of Mancuso in weekly Cambio wherein the former number one of the AUC said that “when they extradited me, they extradited the truth.”
Mancuso, who led the demobilization process of the paramilitaries in 2006 and 2007, says the government is trying to put an end to the testimonies made by the paramilitary leaders.
So far, the Prosecutor Generalhas opened investigations against some 80 Congressmen, mostly from the Uribista coalition, who were arrested for having used paramilitary intimidation to be voted into Congress.
