Colombia’s Prosecutir General’s office announced Thursday it called
four former DAS directors for questioning about their alleged
involvement in the wiretapping scandal of the intelligence agency.
The Prosecution said it found sufficient evidence to start a formal investigation against Maria del Pilar Hurtado, Andres Peñate, Jorge Noguera and Joaquin Polo, local media reported.
The former directors are suspected of seven offenses: conspiracy to commit crime; illeagal communications; illegal use of transmitters or receivers; abuse of authority; falsification of public documents; destruction of public documents; and fraud.
The Prosecution will also investigate 30 other current and former DAS officials for their involvement in the wiretapping.
Colombia’s Supreme Court announced last week that the United Nations will monitor the investigations into the wiretapping scandal.
