Partido de la U leader Luis Carlos Restrepo Wednesday officially asked
the House of Representatives’ accusation commission to investigate
possible links between the Supreme Court and the suspected ally of a drug
trafficker.
Restrepo, when he was still Peace Commissioner for the administration of Alvaro Uribem already had announced that he wanted the Supreme Court to be investigated after demobilized paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso had said his organization AUC had connections as high as the Supreme Court.
The investigation will mostly be about alleged contacts members of the highest judicial body had with a businessman who is suspected of being the contact person for jailed Italian drug lord Giorgio Sale. Intelligence service DAS, suspected of having illegally wiretapped communication by members of the Court, has also been investigating these possible ties.
The Supreme Court has been in bad blood with the Uribe administration and his supporters in Congress, because of the dozens ofcoalition Congressmen who are investigated for their alleged ties to demobilized paramilitary organization AUC.
The same Restrepo recently asked to debate the possibility of granting parliamentary immunity to Congressmen, claiming Congressmen delt persecuted by the Court.
