Banana workers in the north west of Colombia ended their strike after reaching a deal with employers on workers’ wages.
Around 17,000 banana plantation workers started the strike on May 8
in the Uraba region. The protest has
paralyzed around 234,000 18-kg boxes a day of exports.
“We reached an agreement and from this moment on we end the strike,” a spokesperson of the Sintrainagro union told Caracol Noticias. According to the unionist, the employers had agreed with higher wages.
Colombia is the world’s third largest banana producer.
