Colombian cyclist Mauricio Soler proves to be in good shape with a
fourth place in Tuesday’s stage of the Giro d’Italia, one of the most
important cycling races in the world.
The peloton completed a 162km stage -The fourth in this Tour of Italy- from Padova to San Martino di Castrozza, and Soler conquered a spot in the front bunch.
German Jens Voigt attacked later on and it was Soler to make a move and catch the escapee. Unfortunataly the Colombian, riding for team Barloworld, was then caught himself and eventually finished fourth after home riders Danilo Di Luca, Stefano Garzelli and Franco Pellizotti.
Of the four participating Colombians, Félix Cardenas (Barloworld) is the best in the general classification with a 14th position. Soler is 39th, Jose Serpa (Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni) 45th and Mauricio Ardila of Rabobank occupies the 77th spot.
The 26-year-old Mauricio Soler gained international fame when he won the Mountains classification in the 2007 Tour de France. In the 2008 edition of the French race, the cyclist crashed and dropped out in the very first stage.
