The preliminary trial of a Canadian citizen who is accused of
involvement in the murder of her Colombian husband began Tuesday in Santa Marta.
Rojas Gnecco was murdered by hitmen on motorbikes on December 4th 2006.
The hitmen made statements implicating his wife Judith Brassard, a dual Canadian and Ecuadorean citizen, in his murder.
Brassard’s defense lawyer said she was a “victim of those captured for the murder”.
Family and friends gathered outside the court house Tuesday morning, dressed in white to express their solidarity with Brassard, who is currently imprisoned.
Among the defense’s evidence is a CD with the records of over 5,000 phone calls made by the accused. El Informador reported that there is no record of calls made by the accused to identified hitman Jhon
William Osorio, who claims Brassard called him to organize the murder.
Other evidence includes contradictory statements made by Osorio. His earlier statements allegedly make no reference to Brassard, while later statements accuse her of involvement in the murder.
