Seven fishermen were found murdered in the south of Chocó, close to one
of Colombia’s main ports, Buenaventura, Chocó Peace Adviser Luis
Murillo said Friday.
The massacre took place at the mouth of the San Juan river, Murillo told Caracol Radio.
The Peace Adviser said the seven fishermen had gone missing and were found with multiple gun-shot wounds in the mangroves of the river mouth.
Two bodies have been recovered and relief agencies and authorities are asked to recover the remaining five.
The peace adviser blames local paramilitary groups for the massacre and says local communities live in fear because of the presence of these illegal armed groups.
According to the Peace Adviser, it is not the first time local fishermen are the victim of murder. He says last year four massacres took place in the region.
