A Colombian judge Thursday convicted the first paramilitary leader who
had taken part in the demobilization process and was granted benefits
according to the country’s Justice and Peace law. ‘El Loro’ will spend
five years and eight months behind bars.
Wilson Salazar Carrascal, alias ‘El Loro’ (the Parrot) was sentenced to jail, undergo an obligatory psychological test and attend500 hours oftraining in human rights.
“Wilson Salazar Carrascal must sign a written report wherein he promises to comply with the resolution and to promote demobilization. He will also have to take part in a public act in [the department of] Cesar where he will apologize and publicly read this sentence,” the Court ruled.
Carrascal was active in the United Self Defense Forces of Colombia’s Northern Bloc and admitted the murder on a 12-year old girl and a hospital employee.
Because of his collaboration with Colombia’s justice and confessions of all his crimes, the former paramilitary did not receive the 40 years that stand for his crimes, but a reduced sentence.
