América de Cali and Independiente Medellín held each other to a 1-1
draw in an all-Colombian Copa Libertadores clash on Tuesday, a result
that helps neither team at this point.
After a scoreless first half in Cali, the away side took the lead on 55 minutes as Samuel Vanegas scored from a corner kick.
But América fought their way back late on. John Jairo Valencia took a free kick on 81 minutes and sent the ball past DIM goalkeeper Aldo Bobadilla.
In the final minutes, América continued to attack, hunting for a winning goal, but the current Colombian champions lacked the time to force a decision.
Despite having played a match more than the other two teams in this group, Sao Paulo and Defensor, Medellín are currently in third place and América in fourth. The Colombian rivals face again next week, in Medellín.
