Two attacks by Colombia’s largest rebel group, FARC, on Thursday leave four dead and at least 11 wounded, according to the armed forces.
The first attack took place in the town of Guatemala in the south-western department of Cauca, when an explosive device was thrown into a house, causing major damage, killing one person and wounding at least four others, including three minors. Two of the wounded were taken to a local hospital, while the others were transferred to a hospital in Cali, Colombia’s third largest city.
General Jorge Humberto Jerez claimed that the FARC’s Gabriel Galvis Front, with support from the 6th Front, was responsible.
FARC rebels also attacked a platoon of soldiers stationed in the Corinto municipality, also in the Cauca department, resulting in the death of two soldiers, and seven wounded. The soldiers were reportedly stationed beside a communications tower when they came under attack. Authorities have indicated that the FARC’s 6th Front was responsible for the incident.
