Juanes to release his memoir ‘Chasing the Sun’

Colombian singer-songwriter, Juanes, will release his “intimate” autobiography “Chasing the Sun” on April 2.

The Paisa pop star will be signing copies of his new book at 6PM on Monday at Books & Books in Coral Gables, Florida.

The book reportedly contains personal details of his upbringing in Medellin, Antioquia during one of the most violent periods in Colombian history as well as the start of his career. The singer even tells readers about the loss of a friend, who was caught in the crossfire in a bar.

“Speaking about the violence in our country at that time is not easy, especially when you have had such close encounters with death. But I wanted it to be personal. I have not invented anything, I am simply writing the experiences we had, that have taught us to be stronger and better people. Doing this book was like a catharsis,” the singer explained.

Juanes describes the project as an opportunity for fans to “get to know the real me,” and also a way to say thank you for the support.

“The initial idea was to do a book of photos; I wanted to make a compilation of all the photos from tours, concerts as well as personal photos, but in the process I realized that I wanted to give my fans a very special present with more content and so I started to write,” he said.

The autobiography also gives readers insight into his family life with wife Karen Martinez and their three children. His family apparently read the book and gave it their seal of approval. Juanes’ mother also played a key role in the project as the singer relied on her to clarify dates, places and events.

“Revisiting all those moments has been quite rewarding,” the star said.

The Colombian musician has won 22 Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, sold more than 15 million albums and formed a charity to help vulnerable young people in Colombia.
