colombia news- human trafficking network falls

Police announced on Thursday the capture of the leader of a human trafficking and child pornography network in Colombia’s capital Bogota.

Andrés Camilo Gómez Orozco allegedly found victims as young as 13 on social networking sites, posing as a “manager” for young models and promising trips abroad before submitting them to sexual and pornographic exploitation.

Colonel Oscar Pinzon, head of the Infant and Adolescent Protection Unit of the Metropolitan Police stated that Gomez “promised them money, clothes, passports and plane tickets to Europe, the United States and other parts of the world” before forcing his victims to record erotic videos which would be distributed via the Internet.

“Every time a client would click [on Gomez’s videos], large sums of money would be transferred to this criminal’s bank account,” affirmed Pinzon.

The Police believe the organization has been running for over a year and have identified at least 25 minors as victims of the network after analyzing the seven computers found at the headquarters in the Prado Veraniego barrio of Bogota.

Pinzon confirmed that five adult women and two minors were found with Gomez at the time of his capture.
