colombia news- farc members killed

Four members of Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC have been killed and one injured in a military operation in the southwestern department of Guaviare, said the army on Wednesday.

“The result is a product of the infiltration of troops into the hideout of these bandits. A fight broke out and four [FARC] guerrillas were killed, including a key leader of this structure [the FARC’s 1st Front], alias “Yesid”, who was in charge of the finances from drug trafficking and extortion,”  said General Jorge Enrique Navarrete, the commander of the Army’s 22nd Brigade.

Also reportedly killed in the firefight was the girlfriend of Yesid, and two of his men. The confrontation took place at a Farc controlled base on the San Miguel road in the municipality of Clamar.

According to army sources, troops found 2 rifles, 7 pistols, 25 landmines, grenades and 150 metres of detonating cable along with other weaponry and ammunition. Also seized were a laptop and documents which General Navarrete described as “of significant military importance. There are details of their finances and outlay and over $2,500 has been confiscated.”

The general said that the offensive will continue in the region, with operations specifically targeting known head of the Farc’s 1st Front, alias ‘Kokoriko’, who is wanted by authorities on charges of terrorism, rebellion, conspiracy, and murder.
