The FARC are holding 120 members of the Awá indigenous community
captive in the south east of Colombia, the national indigenous
organization ONIC said Wednesday. The rebels were already suspected of
having massacred 18 indigenous earlier this week.
The Awá allegedly have been held by the guerrillas since February 4 because the FARC suspects them of having collaborated with the army. Rebels are said to have killed a few of the hostages.
Tuesday, the ONIC reported the possible murder on 18 members of the indigenous Awá, who live in an area important to the cultivation of coca. The FARC, paramilitaries and the Army are all fighting for control of the region.
