Colombian drug traffickers have testified that the country’s soft drink monopolist Postobon invested in the development and promotion of a new pink cocaine, said police Wednesday.
According to Colombia’s anti-narcotics unit, drug traffickers involved in the development of the pink cocaine have said that they were assisted by the marketing department of the soft drink giant.
“The new stuff is made primarily for the domestic market so we were looking for something that leaves a taste of stale bubblegum. Postobon then came up with the idea of making the cocaine pink and making it taste and smell like plastic apples,” one narco was quoted as saying in a leaked police report.
To promote its disgustingly sweet apple drink, Postobon ran an equally disgustingly sweet commercial on its television station RCN. According to arrested drug traffickers, the same commercial was to pave the way for pink cocaine.
Postobon refused to admit it had anything to do with the development of the cocaine.
“The video wasn’t made to promote the use of cocaine. We were just trying to convince people that consuming pink stuff is actually good,” a Postobon/RCN spokesman told Colombia Reports. “So if this new cocaine is pink, it must also taste good, I guess,” the spokesman added.
