Colombia news - soccer league

Fortune did not favor Bogota’s Millonarios this weekend in the Colombia’s leage semi-finals as they ended up sitting at the bottom of the table on no points.

The bogotanos could not hold their own Sunday and sustained a 3-1 defeat away to Deportivo Pasto in group A. The first half remained goalless until Mauricio Mina found the back of the net in the 65th minute. A throughball from Giraldo found Mina once again with only one man to beat, and with the help of some nifty footwork, he claimed his second goal. A cross to striker Ayron De Valle saw goal number three for Pasto. By this time disarray had set in in the away stands and the Bogota giants could only scrape back one goal from Oswaldo Henriquez in the 85th minute.

Two losses and no wins puts Millonarios at the bottom of group A with four games left to play while Deportiva Pasto sit at the top of the group with six points from three games.

A late night 1-0 away win for Junior vaults the northern Colombian team to second place in group A. Junior took victory over Deportes Tolima thanks to striker Luis Ruiz’ goal in the 25th minute pushing the Central Colombian team down to third place.

Group B sees La Equidad in the number one spot with six points with a comfortable 3-0 win over Medellin thanks to a hattrick from striker Carmelo valencia.

Atletico Nacional, the group B favorites, dropped down to fourth place after a 2-0 loss away to Itagui on Saturday thanks Yessi Mena slipping the ball in from the penalty area and a chip from Anderson Zapata at the edge of the box.

After three games a piece and three to go the current group B rankings show La Equidad at the top, followed by Itagui, then Medellin, both with four points, while Atletico Nacional trail with three points.

While matches played is currently at three, each in the group B qualification slots could be anyone’s however Millionarios will have to up their game if they want a place in the final four with two matches played on not a point to their name.
