More than 3,000 Colombian turned out to pay homage to their soccer hero Radamel Falcao during Atletico Madrid’s last Spanish La Liga encounter.
The Atletico frontman is spearheading a new campaign to promote Colombia in Spain for which over 3,000 Colombian’s living in Madrid were allocated special discounted tickets for the league clash with Getafe.
Although El Tigre — somewhat surprisingly — failed to score, his team did emerge 2-0 victors and in turn kept the pressure on league leaders Barcelona.
One member of the crowd was Colombia’s ambassador in Spain Orlando Sardi, who paid tribute to Falcao after the match.
“The star player for Atletico is a Colombian and he is playing in another country. He is a shining example for many young people.” said Sardi.
Falcao has been a huge sensation in the Spanish capital ever since he joined from Porto and his incredible goal haul of 39 goals in just 43 games has seen him nominated for the Ballon D’or ‘best player in the world award’.
Sardi backed the Santa Marta born player for the award which will be announced in December.
“It would be much more exciting if Falcao was also to be awarded the Ballon D’or award. I also hope Radamel continues competing for the top scorer in the league and continues to score for his team and for our country, ” he added.
