Colombia’s police on Thursday offered almost $28 thousand for information leading to the perpetrators of the gruesome massacre of 10 peasants in a farm 20 miles from Medellin.
The slaughter of rural citizens in the center of the Antioquia department is being investigated by both regional and national police with a 50 million peso reward (about $27.5 thousand) for any information leading to the arrests of those responsible for the killings, reported W Radio.
Allegedly the bloodshed occurred when members of the “Rastrojos” drug gang forced peasants inside a farm house and threw a grenade into the closed space and shot the survivors of the grenade blast.
According to newspaper El Espectador, there are a few theories of why the rural laborers were murdered in cold blood after they finished work on a tomato farm in the Santa Rosa de Osos municipality, located in the north of Antioquia.
The most likely motive is that the farm owner refused to pay the “Rastrojos” extortion money that they demanded, with several of the gang members arriving Wednesday night to collect the payment and massacring the group of farm workers as retalliation.
Allegedly one farmer survived the carnage and remains in the hospital. The 10 other victims were not so luckily.
