The Colombian government blames the FARC for the bomb blast in the wealthy north of Bogotá Tuesday that killed two and injured twenty others and announced the formation of an elite force to tackle extortion.
“The government regrets the death of two citizens in this new terrorist attack against Bogotá, which once again shows the farce of the FARC that speaks of human rights and humanitarian deals and at the same time combine extortion and terror,” President Uribe said in a written press statement.
Authorities promise a 100 million peso (US$43,000) reward for information leading to those responsible for the car bomb near a Blockbuster video store.
The Defense Ministry is taking the lead in the investigation and announced the formation of an elite force to deal with extortion of entrepreneurs in the capital.
Bogotá has been subjected to numerous bomb attacks all linked to extortion. In most cases authorities blame the FARC for these attacks. It is the first time in a year the wealthy north of Bogotá is attacked.
