Colombia’s ambassador to Spain on Monday urged that country’s businesses to invest in his country in a bid to allow his country to “open its market and compete as equals with the worlds largest economies.”
The ambassador, Orlando Sardi de Lima, presented his case at a forum called ”Invest in Colombia, export in Colombia” that brought together experts, politicians and Spanish small and medium-sized enterprises.
Praising his country’s current state, Sardi de Lima said “Colombia maintains government, institution and judicial security characteristics of government that for years has guaranteed an international position for many years after recovery from a war that will hopefully come to fruition in the current peace negotiations,” the ambassador was quoted as saying by Spanish press agency EFE.
The ambassador asserted that his country “maintained the decision to be serious and stable” and that “the alliance with other countries is essential for development.”
Sardi de Lima did, however, acknowledge that his country does have some issues with infrastructure stating that Colombia must ”recognize the weaknesses if the country wants progress.”
The ambassador pointed out that Spain has an economy five times the size of Colombia and is still an economic world power despite it feeling the bitter end of the Euro zone crisis.
