The Colombian Senate will begin an investigation into a missing FARC computer believed to contain vital intelligence, reported Caracol Radio Monday.
The laptop of FARC commander Henry Castellanos Garzon, alias “Romaña,” was seized in 2010 by Colombia’s military and apparently vanished into thin air while on its way to the Prosecutor General’s Office. Romaña is reportedly a notorious FARC guerrilla commander with alleged secret ties to Colombia’s armed forces.
The Senate will now begin debating the political control of the armed forces in an effort to explain how an important piece of evidence could be so badly mishandled.
“It is urgent that the prosecution explains how this device was misplaced and what information it contained, in order to gauge the risk it could generate if it falls in the wrong hands,” said Miriam Paredes, President of the Senate’s second commission in charge of defense issues.
Although investigations into the “disappearance” of the FARC computer are underway, they have proven to be thus far unsuccessful.
