Five soldiers have been killed by FARC rebels in the south of Colombia, a regional army commander said Saturday.
According to the commander of the 27th Jungle Brigade, the five men were killed and three more were injured by a roadside bomb detonated by guerrillas.
“While carrying out operations in the area, unfortunately the FARC, that used explosives and elements forbidden by human rights and international humanitarian law, activated a charge as one of the vehicles passed,” Colonel Juvenal Diaz told Spanish press agency Efe.
“Five of our men were killed instantly and three more were injured,” the colonel added.
The attack took place in an area on the border with Ecuador, allegedly by members of the FARC’s 48th front, “under the command of ‘Robledo’.”
