Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya has not been able to win the 24
Hours of Daytona for the third consecutive time. The prestigious race
was instead won by American David Donohue and teammates Antonio Garcia,
Darren Law and Buddy Rice.
Montoya formed part of the teams that won this race in 2007 and 2008 and was again on course to take the trophy.
But things didn’t work out that way on the Daytona International Speedway of Daytona Beach, Florida.
Montoya’s team led with about an hour to go but it was then, with the Colombian behind the wheel, that Donohue surpassed and took the lead.
Former Formula 1 pilot Montoya failed to reply and after 735 laps the victory went to Donohue. Montoya had to settle for second.
The 33-year-old Bogotano left Formula 1 to try his luck in NASCAR in 2006, and remained in the United States since.
