Colombian government denied that activist Gustavo Moncayo has fled the country because of concerns over his security.
It had been reported that Moncayo, the activist father of former FARC hostage Pablo Emilio Moncayo, had fled the country after “repeated threats against his life”
However director of the National Protection Unit, Andres Villamizar, announced via his Twitter account that Moncayo left the country but will return in 15 days.
He said: “We were just talking to the Moncayo family and they said the trip was planned and they will return in 15 days.”
Moncayo is known throughout Colombia for his walks through the country demanding that his son be released by the guerrilla group.
His son, who remained captive for 12 years, left Colombia soon after his release, nevertheless there has still be issues over the safety of Moncayo, who previously revealed that there was an attempt to take him hostage.
