Colombia will receive $1.5million from the international community as part of a plan to reintegrate victims of violence and demobilized guerillas into society, reported Radio Caracol Monday.
The plan is set to run alongside peace talks between the Colombian government and the country’s largest rebel group FARC, which are set to commence in Norway’s capital Oslo this month.
High Commissioner for Reintegration, Alejandro Eder, said that the money will go towards helping people in six areas in Colombia who were affected and continue to be affected by the violence.
Alejandro Eder, who will be on the board for the government during the peace talks, said. “These resources are to support reconciliation programs. It is very important because it is a balanced draft with international cooperation and recognition that if we want to build peace then we must generate reconciliation working with victims and perpetrators.”
Eder added that the plan is under a project called ‘lessons learned’ from almost 10 years of reintegrating guerillas into society.
“We already have experience in peace building; we are working on something more balanced. Opportunities must be given to these parties,” he said.
