Congress reviewed on Thursday the health status of Colombia’s Vice President Angelino Garzon and consequentially his capability to fullfill his official duties.
The vice president, who is still recovering from a stroke he had in June, is being medically examined to discern whether or not he would be able to replace the current president in the event that something happened to Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos, reported newspaper El Espectador.
A committee of six doctors will be analyzing Garzon’s health status Thursday. The committee will then admit “physical, motor, mental and psychological results to be delivered in a sealed envelope to the Senate for review.”
In June Garzon suffered a near death stroke, leaving the vice president in a coma after the episode. Although Garzon has slowly improved since then, congress members have been questioning his ability to fulfill his official government role.
There had been rumors that results of the tests and the fate of Garzon would be revealed and decided on Tuesday. However according to newspaper El Pais, Senate President Roy Barreras denied this stating that, “there will not be a decision on the continuation of Angelino Garzon next Tuesday and the senators will take their time to study the results of the evaluation.”
