The unemployment rate for Colombia has dropped to 9.7%, the lowest it has been in 11 years.
According to the Director of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), unemployment rate is the lowest it has been for this month in 11 years. The statistic is in alignment with what the government anticipated for Colombia, reported Portfolio.
Despite the success and positive economic trend, it still means that “unemployment affects 2.25 million people of working age,” according to El Espectador.
Last year in August unemployment was 11.2%, affecting 2.23 million people. Unemployment affects a larger number of Colombians this year despite the percentage drop allegedly due to population growth.
The cities that presented the least number of unemployed were San Andrés with 8.5%, followed by Barraquilla with 8.7% and Cartagena with 9.4%.
