The U.S. coastguard has seized more than two tons of cocaine on the Caribbean sea thanks to information provided by the Colombian Navy, reported local media Wednesday.
U.S. authorities seized two vessels in the Caribbean and have applauded the assistance given by the Colombians under the maritime interdiction agreement signed between the two countries.
The first arrests came 43 nautical miles from Puerto Cabezas, off Nicaragua’s eastern coastline, where the coastguard found 1,020 kilograms of cocaine stashed on a “fishing vessel.”
The U.S. coastguard also detained four people near Honduran waters, who were reportedly carrying 1,325 kilograms of cocaine on their vessel.
The total amount of drugs seized in the raids purportedly had a street value of $70 million. According to Radio Santa Fe, approximately 7,000 kilograms of cocaine have been seized under the aforementioned maritime agreement between the U.S. and Colombia.
