Colombia’s 2013 budget will focus on the country’s most critical sectors of infrastructure, agriculture and social issues, said the minister of finance Friday.
Minister of Finance Mauricio Cardenas, appointed just two weeks ago, said that he “will seek to reduce inequalities and correct distortions in income taxes,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
This reduction in inequalities will allegedly be achieved by changing the budget’s priorities, W Radio posted. The change in priority includes Cardenas’ allotment of more resources to the agricultural and infrastructural sectors of next year’s national budget, which was set last week at $103 billion.
Cardenas claimed that the 2013 budget “is balanced, socially and agriculturally, it gives a great opportunity to the economic sectors and ministries to make a breakthrough in public investment, never before have we had so many opportunities in tax matters.”
According to Caracol Radio, Colombia’s Congress will be voting on the new 2013 budget in the first week of October.
