512 kilos of marijuana were seized and then destroyed by the army in northern Colombia on Thursday.
The Colombian army, in coordination with police, found 12 bundles of pressed marijuana in the department of Magdalena, apparently belonging to gangs who work for drug traffickers.
No one was arrested during the operation and for this reason the intended destination of the illegal drugs remains unknown.
“We are conducting investigations to ascertain the whereabouts of the owners of this pressed marijuana,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ignacio Gerenas, commander of the High Mountain Battalion.
An official in charge of the operation added, “This will hit the source of financing of armed groups outside the law. The army and the police are willing to continue its coordinated operations that allow us to fight drug trafficking and contribute to the decreased production of these drugs.”
