The Bogota Film Festival hopes to once again captivate its audience during the 2012 edition from October 10 to 18.
In its 29th version, the festival will pay tribute to Gabriel Garcia Marquez among other influential Colombians. According to newspaper El Espectador, organizers of the event announced that this year 58 countries submitted 771 films, of which 50 are animations, 24 from digital film, 352 are short films, 27 are documentaries about art, 11 are environmental documentaries, 206 are social documentaries, 62 are long films and 22 are videos.
Colombia will present 144 works from all categories made throughout different regions of the country.
Continuing with their annual tradition, the festival will award prizes to various categories to select films that create “a show of great variety of formats and themes, which are being selected for the final event,” said the organizers.
The Bogota Film Festival, organized by the International Film Corporation, began in 1984 as a necessity to award the achievements of Colombian cinema. The second edition of the festival combined national productions with cinematography of surrounding countries, and continued in its following years paying tribute to films from around the world.
The festival has always been especially characterized by its posters as well. The official images of the event are designed and created exclusively by nationally and internationally renowned artists, and the 2012 poster made by artist Nadin Ospina was launched on September 4.
