The Colombian Federation of Journalists (FECOLPER) asked the Red Cross Wednesday to facilitate the release of a journalist who was kidnapped by rebel group the ELN last week.
The federation’s president, Adriana Hurtado, called upon the Red Cross to mediate the release of journalist Elida Parra like it did for French journalist Romeo Langlois who was kidnapped by the FARC on April 28 and freed a month later.
Para and her colleague Gina Uribe, an environmental engineer, were kidnapped from their homes in the northeastern department of Arauca on July 25. Both women are employees of a multinational company that is building an oil pipeline from the eastern Casanare department to the Caribbean coast.
Earlier on Wednesday, the ELN released a proof of life video of the two women. In the video, Parra and Uribe talk to their families and ask their employer to cooperate in securing their release.
