An alleged attack by the left-wing guerrilla group the ELN has left two soldiers wounded in the southwestern Nariño department, reported local media Monday evening.
The army patrol was attacked with explosives while protecting an electrical power plant in the municipality of Samaniego, located some 30km west of the departmental capital Pasto, reported radio station Santa Fe.
Authorities said the ELN’s “Comuneros Front,” considered to be active in soutwestern Colombia, was behind the attack.
This is the fifth attack attributed to ELN rebels in the municipality in the past few days, according to authorities.
The ELN, Colombia’s second-largest rebel group, is estimated to currently have between 1,500 and 3,000 armed members.
