Three separate FARC attacks across Colombia have left one soldier dead and several vehicles destroyed on Friday, reported local media on the day the country is celebrating its independence from Spain.
In one incident, suspected FARC guerrillas attacked the police on the road connecting Colombia’s third largest city Cali to the pacific town of Buenaventura. The attack left one policeman dead and five wounded, preliminary reports said.
Authorities blamed the FARC’s 30th Front for the attack.
In Colombia’s northern Norte de Santander department, alleged FARC guerrillas from the 33rd Front burned five tractors belonging to a local mining company. There were no reports of deaths or injuries.
Earlier Friday morning, FARC guerrillas blew up a bridge connecting two municipalities in the southern Caqueta department.
The series of attacks fall on Colombia’s Independence Day, which is celebrated throughout the country.
