Colombia’s defense minister said Tuesday military operations in the southwestern Cauca department will intensify despite pleas from the local indigenous community.
In the last few days 2,000 soldiers have sent to Cauca to fulfill the objective of removing rebel forces in the war-torn municipalities of Jambolo, Argelia and Toribio.
“This operation will intensify and it will comply with the objectives of this region, and we aim to continue in the promised manner, to advance in the military operation along the lines pronounced by the president of the republic,” said Juan Carlos Pinzon.
Pinzon said he felt “respect” for the indigenous people demanding the exit of state forces and FARC rebels alike, but stated the Colombian Army and police would not retreat from the department.
