Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon is released from hospital and recovers from his stroke, confirmed President Juan Manuel Santos Tuesday.
Garzon “is making progress every day and has already recovered his basic functions,” Santos told local media after visiting the vice president’s family on the first day of Garzon’s release from the hospital.
The 65-year-old politician will now be treated at home with daily visits from therapists and doctors.
According to Garzon’s family, he is able to recognize and interact with people and to some extent, listens to the news, Santos said.
The vice president was hospitalized on June 14 for a prostate infection. While in hospital cerebrovascular complications occurred and Garzon was moved to intensive care. At the end of June he awoke from the coma and was taken off the respiratory support.
Although the politician is recovering well, it remains to be seen if the stroke left any permanent damages.
