In an operation involving U.S. and Honduran authorities, the Colombian air force have intercepted an airplane allegedly used by drug traffickers, local media reported Thursday.
The twin engine aircraft type PA-31, apparently headed for Honduras, was detected over the Caribbean Sea by Colombian Air Force (FAC) radars who then contacted Honduran authorities.
According to the FAC, Honduran authorities located the immobilized plane, after which it landed upon a makeshift runway and crashed into the ground, leaving one crew member dead and another wounded. In the mission a total of 33 boxes packed with about a ton of cocaine were confiscated.
Honduras and Colombia signed an agreement to allow the two nations to share intelligence on drug trafficking, kidnapping and organized crime in 2010.
