Bogota’s mayor Gustavo Petro said Thursday that a better cabinet is needed in order to complete the city’s development plan.
Petro sided with experts who said that the mayor’s cabinet needed more business directors and politicians. The announcement came shortly after the approval of Bogota’s $3.5 billion development plan and the resignation of several municipal cabinet members at the request of Petro.
Petro says the changes in the city’s administration have the objective of “evaluating and making adjustments in the implementation of the plan,” according to newspaper El Pais.
Aurelio Suarez, a Bogota representative for the leftist Polo Democratico party, criticized Petro, saying that “no one knows where the plan is going and how it is going to be financed.”
Bogota’s development plan aims to create a more “humane Bogota” through investing in government, infrastructure and education between 2012 and 2016.
