The Antioquia government shut down Wednesday following threats against governor Sergio Fajardo, a source within the governor’s office said Thursday.
According to the source, the army evacuated the entire Medellin main office, effectively shutting down the government.
“Imagine the mess,” the source told Colombia Reports, “Everybody was removed from the building.”
While not mentioning the shut-down of his government, governor Sergio Fajardo admitted on national radio that he has been receiving “serious threats” which he blamed on his attempts to ban corruption from the Antioquia government.
“The corruption is a criminal enterprise equally or even more difficult to get rid of than the guerrillas [of the FARC and ELN].”
Government employees were allowed back in the office on Thursday morning. According to Fajardo, the army and the Prosecutor General’s Office are investigating the death threats.
