Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC on Sunday denied supporting a government proposal aimed at creating a legal framework for possible future peace negotiations.
In a statement published on the website of the radical Radio Cafe Stereo, the guerrilla command denies the veracity of a previous statement in name of the FARC in which support is given for the so-called “Legal Framework for Peace,” a pending bill that would set legal boundaries to compromises made if the FARC or other illegal armed groups decide to lay down weapons.
According to the FARC. “it is clear that the real authors of those papers seek to generate confusion within the public opinion.”
The veracity of the false FARC statement was also doubted by President Juan Manuel Santos, who on Twitter asked “the obvious question: who is trying to achieve what with this?”
