A Colombian documentary filmmaker and indigenous leader was found dead in in Medellin, newspaper El Espectador reported Friday.
According to The Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP), 25-year-old Yamid Bailarín Suescún was working on a documentary about human rights in Urabá, in the western department of Antioquia.
On May 28 Caracol Radio reported that Suescún, who was the leader of a township in the municipality of Mutatá, also in Antioquia, was murdered.
The victim was reportedly killed with a firearm and found dead in a basement in western Medellin, Caracol reported.
The press release FLIP issued Friday stated that there were no reports that Suescún had received threats prior to his death.
FLIP said the township where Suescún’s body was found is “a place of conflict where homicides of youth and community leaders occur frequently.”
