Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon entered the fourth and final round of voting to become the leader of the United Nations International Labour Organisation (ILO) Monday.
Garzon received seven votes in the third round of voting, trailing behind the Current Deputy Director General of the ILO, Guy Ryder of Britain who received 17 votes and Frenchman Gilles do Robien who received 12.
Benin’s Dan Charles, the ILO’s current regional director for Africa, will also participate in the final election which will take place by secret ballot later Monday.
The winner will be elected for a term of five years and will replace Chilean Juan Somavia who has served as leader of the agency for the last 13 years.
Garzon has long been involved in Colombia’s labor sector and has previously served as the Minister of Labor and Social Security, governor of the department of Cauca and Colombian ambassador to the UN.
