A United States report on human rights in Colombia is “unfair” and fails to recognize Colombia’s progress, the foreign minister told local media.
“There is so much injustice” in human rights reports prepared by the U.S. or the United Nations, because they fail to take into account the improvements made, according to Maria Angela Holguin.
The report found impunity and corruption remained the top human rights concerns in Colombia, along with an inefficient justice system and discrimination against indigenous populations.
It was published Thursday as part of the U.S. State Department’s 2011 Country Report on Human Rights Practices, which documents human rights issues around the world.
“We will reply argument by argument,” contained in the report to defend Colombia’s advances on human right issues, Holguin said.
