Colombian Transport Minister Andres Uriel Gallego ordered authorities
to investigate the slow response of the Rionegro airport authority
after an American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency
landing because of technical failure.
The airport, receiving most passengers travelling to and from Colombia’s second largest city Medellín, was also criticized by governor Luis Alfredo Ramos Botero, who objected the excessive delay of the evacuation of passengers on board the aircraft. He also criticized the fact it took four hours to clear the runway so air travel could continue.
The slow response to the incident caused delays on airports throughout Colombia.
American Airlines flight 924 with destination Miami was forced to make an emergency landing Saturday morning after alleged problems with one of the engines and the brake system.
