A 23-year-old civil engineering student has been crowned Miss Antioquia 2012-2013, local media reported Friday.
Laura Trujillo Montoya, a 5 foot 8 beauty trained in Kung Fu, will represent the Antioquia Department at the Miss Colombia pageant in Cartagena. The region’s hopes will be resting on her shoulders, as Antioquia has not claimed Colombia’s top beauty prize in 16 years.
Trujillo is in her sixth semester of civil engineering at the EAFIT University. She speaks English as well as basic Mandarin, which she learned while living in China for a year.
She had no dreams of being Miss Antioquia until she met a pageant coach while vacationing on Venezuela’s Isla Margarita. He told her she had potential, so she decided to enter.
The Miss Colombia competition is held every November.
