Colombia’s defense minister announced a reorganization of the highest commanders of the National Police on Tuesday.
Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon made the announcement days after current deputy director, Gen. Jose Roberto Leon, was named director. Leon replaced Oscar Naranjo, the widely hailed outgoing National Police director who will step down on May 15.
Pinzon named current Inspector General Edgar Orlando Vale Mosquera as the new deputy director and moved Santiago Parra from director of rural police to inspector general.
Rodolfo Palomino stayed on as director of security and Luis Alberto Perez Albaran also remained in his post as the anti-narcotics director.
The defense minister said the new police command will “seek stability of the institution, continuity of what they have been doing and a work force that creates new capacities for the National Police.”
