Medellin’s Atletico Nacional announced that Juan Carlos Osorio will be the team’s new head coach. He signed a contract to stay with the team until December 2013.
After a dismal performance this season–the team is currently ranked 13th out of 18 teams in the Liga Postobon–a coaching change was all but inevitable.
Osorio is a former Colombian soccer star and head coach of Nacional rival Millionarios F.C. He also coached the Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls of U.S.-based Major League Soccer.
Former Nacional head coach Santiago Escobar was fired April 30.
