Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos has remained silent on the fate of a French journalist injured and reportedly captured by FARC rebels in southern Colombia Saturday.
Romeo Langlois was accompanying an army patrol in southern Caqueta Department when it became engaged in a firefight with alleged FARC guerrillas. According to Colombia’s Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon, Langlois was “hit by a bullet in the left arm and (…) took the decision to take off his vest and helmet.”
The incident left four soldiers dead and six injured, but while Santos has offered his condolences to the families of the dead soldiers via Twitter, he has so far said nothing about Langlois, who French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe stated yesterday “was taken prisoner” by the FARC.
The Frenchman had been working on a report on counternarcotics operations in southern Colombia for French television network France 24.
