Recent military operations have separated FARC leader “Timochenko” from his personal security forces and isolated him from the guerrilla group, said the commander of Colombia’s Air Force Sunday.
According to General Tito Saul Pinilla, the ongoing military pressure has forced a number of the FARC’s highest commanders to operate in tiny cells away from large groups of fighters which subsequently is diminishing their ability to lead the guerrilla organization.
“One cannot lead an organization through email, radio or phone. There is no visible leadership,” Pinilla told newscast Noticias Uno.
The general said that the isolation from their lower ranks is also affecting other members of the FARC’s secretariat, the guerrilla organization’s highest body.
The air force has killed more than 60 alleged guerrillas in two separate air strikes in the past two weeks. The operations follow an increasing number of deadly FARC attacks on security forces in the northeast and southwest of Colombia.
